Snow accumulation

I still feel strange talking about snow in Baton Rouge. Turns out that we had more than 3 inches in most of Baton Rouge. The airport reported 3.2" with Zachary/Baker in the northern portion of the parish reporting 5.5". Greensburg (where the 'Three C's and a Cockroach' post occurred) got 4 inches, heck N'awlins got an inch. Tangipahoa Parish (that may be the single coolest county/parish name behind Defiance Co., Ohio) got 8 inches.

Most of the snow on the north and west sides of town had melted by about 4 pm. There was still snow in my part of town this morning.

What was that about global warming?

Since Monday of this week, I've heard the word 'snow' mentioned in the forecast, even though no accumulation was expected. I thought, "Yeah, right, I'm in Louisiana. It doesn't snow this far south." I hoped to at least see it snow even if didn't stick. So when the radio came on this morning, I was SHOCKED to hear that we had significant accumulations (2 inches). As you can see from the pictures below, the flakes were big enough that you can quite clearly see them falling in the images. It was almost like being a kid in Christmas. And even though most of the snow was gone from near campus by 4:15 this afternoon, there was still quite a bit snow left in the yard by the time I got back to the house around 5. I was so happy about the snow, getting bit by a fire ant this morning didn't phase me. :)

As one caller to the Walton and Johnson radio show who happened to be driving through this mess today said, "Global warming, ha. I wish Al Gore was riding shotgun with me so I could smack him upside the head."
